Sarah and James Fidock were kids when they found Rosemary Brown’s body.
She was murdered 25 years ago. Rosemary and her 15-year-old daughter Melissa Trussell had been missing for seven weeks. Melissa’s body has not been found. Their killer has not been caught.
Sarah and James came forward to the media recently, hoping their story would trigger a witness to come forward.
Their first contact was with 7News journalist Hannah Foord.
The siblings committed to speaking to the media outlet. Everything seemed reasonable at their end.
Other outlets contacted them and they agreed to interviews.
A perfectly reasonable thing to do for two incredible and courageous young people who just want to help. Multiple stories were produced by a range of media outlets.

The 7News journalist contacted Sarah. The screenshots of the conversation are in this post – needless to say, the planned interview did not happen because “the story” about Rosemary and Melissa’s deaths was of no interest without a new angle (that angle being the chance to exploit Sarah and James).
““The ABC, the Advertiser and Nine News put beautiful stories together – and they were all different about raising awareness,” Sarah says. They handled it with empathy and grace. But 7News was a disgrace.”
Seven paid for one murderer’s defamation legal fees and it also paid a year’s rent for a rapist – and funded his access to sexual services.
But it could not give Sarah and James two minutes on the news to tell their story because they were not exclusive.
There’s nothing ethical about this! It’s just another opportunity for this media outlet to show its disregard for dead women.
