Once again, the legal system has shown how much it values the lives of Australian women. The NSW Appeal Court has upheld the piddling sentence given to the man who killed Mackenzie Anderson.
Tyrone Thompson killed 21-year-old Mackenzie in 2022 by stabbing her 78 times.
Her little boy was home as he murdered her.
He was sentenced to 22.5 years with parole after 15.5 years.
The NSW DPP appealed the sentence.
Mackenzie’s mum Tabitha Acret also begged the court to sentence the killer to life.
The pleas have fallen on deaf ears, with the appeal judges deciding his future is of more value than Mackenzie’s life. His sentence stands.
“Today is a deeply painful day,” Tabitha says.
“Today, when the appeal was not upheld, and Judge Weinstein’s sentence was allowed to stand, my outrage, my disappointment, and my sadness cannot be put into words.
“I fought as hard as I could to change this outcome. But today, it was not enough.
“But I will not stop. The fight is not over.
“I will continue to raise my voice, to fight for Mackenzie, and to fight for every woman in this country until change comes.”
In less than 15 years, this man will, in all probability, be out of jail, re-partner, build a life and possibly have children.
Mackenzie’s little boy will grow without his mum by his side.
Mackenzie’s little boy will grow without his mum by his side. Tabitha will mourn her daughter every day.
THIS IS NOT JUSTICE! THIS IS A JOKE!
