Lachlan Young murdered Hannah McGuire on April 5, 2024, at Sebastopol, Victoria. She was only 23.
Young has just been sentenced to 28 years in prison.
Hannah had chosen to leave Young and to live her life on her own terms and free from his abuse and control.
He killed her because, out of his life meant out of his control.
After murdering Hannah, he drove her to the bush in her car and set the vehicle on fire. He used Hannah’s phone to send messages to her mum Debbie, claiming Hannah was suicidal and planned to end her life. He transferred $2000 from Hannah’s bank account to Debbie’s account and $5000 to himself to try to cover his tracks.

Debbie went to Hannah’s home to try to help her daughter. Young pretended surprise when she showed him the messages he’d sent from Hannah’s phone. He was eventually charged with her murder.
“Unlike the accused, Hannah mattered,” Debbie said in her victim impact statement.
“She was important and loved and brought to this world things no one else could.”
Glenn McGuire said he felt immense guilt because he was unable to protect his daughter.
“I was supposed to be there to guide her and to support her to grow into the incredible woman she was becoming,” he said.
“Instead, I had to bury her. I had to pick out a coffin instead of a graduation or a wedding dress.”
HANNAH McGUIRE MATTERS!❤️
