Darwin nurse Katrina Hawker was murdered on September 12, 2020 at Bakewell, NT. Police believed the story he fed them about her ending her own life by overdosing on drugs.
Last June, NT Coroner Elisabeth Armitage said it was unlikely Katrina killed herself and referred Katrina’s case to the NT police commissioner and Director of Public Prosecutions.
Katrina’s partner Peter Scammell, 44, has now been charged with murder. He was extradited from Victoria and will face court in the Northern Territory.
Katrina was on the verge of leaving the relationship before her death and he was abusing her.. Scammel told multiple people he wanted to kill Katrina.

“He said ‘I’m tired of her’, ‘I’m sick of her’ and ‘I’m going to kill her’,” the coroner’s report says, citing evidence from one of the accused’s mates.
No one should be surprised by this. Right now, I am working with the family of Holly Anne Davidson to have her case investigated as a murder.
A NT Coroner found she died in suspicious circumstances. Her police officer partner repeatedly abused her and no crime scene was set up when she died.
I often talk to families who have lost a woman to violence but whose deaths are mislabeled. Hidden homicides are happening Australia-wide.
