Shakira Robertson was last night awarded the Australian Human Rights Commission Young People’s Award.
When her mum Jacqui Lee Purton was murdered, Shakira became the sole parent to her little brothers.
She’s helping transform Tasmania’s systemic responses to domestic and family violence and campaigning to have vehicles classed as weapons. Jacqui was killed by a violent man who used a vehicle as his weapon, but he copped a lenient sentence.
