A male hid in the bushes outside of her home. When the 18-year-old arrived, she stabbed her 11 times with a 20cm knife. She was taken to the hospital in a critical condition and is currently stable.
After attacking her in Kew, Victoria on Wednesday, the male took off. His body was found some time later by cops. Police did a press conference, and they reduced a targeted attempted femicide to nothing more than a ‘knife crime’.

Superintendent Wayne Cheeseman said: “It’s a really sad incident, and unfortunately, it’s reflective of, I guess, the knife crime that we’re seeing in this state. And I implore people who are carrying knives. Please consider your actions.”
He could have called out violent and abusive men, he could have acknowledged the high rates of male violence in Victoria (we lost 15 women to violence in that state in 2025) and he could have urged violent men to not kill women. Instead he focused on knives.
