❤️HER NAME IS: FLORRIE REUBEN!❤️
On the day of her death they could have taken her killer away – he burned her alive 46 minutes after they left.
It was the final act in a long list of failures by police – moments that would have saved her life.
Florrie Reuben died in a deliberately lit fire at her home in Ayr, Qld, on August 9, 2022.
Her abuser died some weeks later from burns.
Florrie told others about Isei Navutovuto’s abuse and her fears he would kill her.
Forensic pathologist Rebecca Williams did the autopsy. She said Navutovuto poured the petrol onto Florrie and lit the flame.
Qld Domestic and Family Violence Inspector Melissa Dwyer told Florrie’s inquest last week that officers failed to act ‘decisively’ 12 times over four years – there were ‘missed opportunities’ to keep her safe at every turn.
She said they failed to strengthen the domestic violence order, did not take statements from witnesses, failed to follow up when alcohol was involved and incorrectly labelling incidents in the police database.
On the night she died, police were called to her house as he had threatened suicide.
A mental health assessment team said “there was no grounds” to remove him.
A neighbour heard him say “fuck this” and then saw flames coming out of the house.
Florrie screamed: “He’s trying to kill me”.
Neighbours did their best to save Florrie but she died that evening in hospital.
Florrie once told her relative he had followed her around the house holding a jerry can of fuel and a lighter, saying he would set the house on fire with her inside.
I’ve documented multiple femicides where women were turned away for not having enough evidence, were misidentified as the aggressor or were told to come back when it gets physical.
How many more women will be let down by police who do not care whether we live or die?
re are absolute rubbish,” he told The Australian. “Comical in fact. Nothing has been served on me nor has anyone contacted me. I haven’t had anything to do with her since … seven weeks ago. I ended the ‘situationship’ that night for very good reason.”
FLORRIE REUBEN MATTERS!❤️
