❤️HER NAME IS NIKKITA AZZOPARDI! ❤️
One year ago yesterday, Nikkita Azzopardi told her family about her new partner.
Today is her 36th birthday. She won’t be there to celebrate it – instead her family will spend the day by her grave.
Today they will celebrate and mourn a woman frozen in time.
She may have been a cheeky child, but little Nikkita Azzopardi was also kind, caring and exceedingly empathetic.
The little girl with the giant grin worshipped her brothers Darren and Shaun, sister Farrah and her parents Edward and Vimla (Mary).
She was an adventurous soul who trekked the globe. Nikkita loved books, food, parties and … well … she just loved life.
Nikkita and her partner gathered to celebrate her 35th birthday on April 20, 2024.
Six months later, Nikkita missed a family event. It was unusual so her parents and brothers went to her home in South Morang, Victoria.
They found Nikkita dead – she was killed on October last year. It’s alleged the accused spent two days with her body.
Charged with murder, he’s pushing for a mental health finding. If successful, he could be released in just a few years.
Despite their distress, her family started Justice for Nikkita to raise awareness of holes in the legal system.
Nikkita was the 71st of 103 Australian women killed in 2024. A total of 123 women have been killed in the past 15.5 months.
Shaun is determined to get justice for his sister, but also to make sure other families never have to tread the same path he now walks.
“Nikkita was a blessing to have in my life,” he says.
“She was my earpiece – she gave me so much valuable advice.
“I miss her beautiful smile and laugh.
“The memories we shared are reflected on daily.”
Nikkita and her mum were exceptionally close – Mary’s pain for her daughter’s absence and death is unfathomable.
Her dad Edward oscillates between anger and grief.
Edward wrote this poem for Nikkita.
Happy Heavenly Birthday our shining star.
May you brighten us with your memoir.
Missing you so much daughter, auntie, cousin and friend.

We know God is with you each and every day.
NIKKITA AZZOPARDI MATTERS!❤️
