Uvindu Pansuja Samarasi Jayasekara is training to be a doctor at James Cook University.
At an event in 2021, he waited for everyone to leave the room before punching, pinching and grabbing his partner.
His assault included giving her an ‘upper cut’ to her chin.
He did this because she interrupted his conversation with someone else.
He faced court this week in Townsville, where Jayasekara’s lawyer begged the magistrate not to convict the thug, because it would prevent him from being able to work with children.
JCU Head of Clinical Studies Associate Professor Zaf Smith provided one of five good character references.

The university provided character references to save HIS career.
The court gave him a pass to save HIS career.
They did nothing for HER.
Now she faces the prospect of having to work with this thug if she is to continue her studies.
“I know that there is a great chance that I may work with him even after university,” she said in her victim impact statement.
“I will never feel safe working with or near him.”
