‘Edith was a woman of integrity, who chose humanity every day’
Her family’s statement about their beloved Edith Brutman sends shivers down my spine.
A woman of integrity, of humanity, of principle, of service. These are all the things her killers will never be.
Edith is one of 15 people murdered by two men at the Chanukah by the Sea Jewish festival at Bondi Beach, NSW, on December 14.
Edith is also the 68th of 69 Australian women killed this year and the 173rd woman lost to violence since January 1 of 2024.
Edith was the vice-president of NSW’s anti-prejudice and anti-discrimination committee at B’nai B’rith.
“She met prejudice with principle, and division with service,” Edith’s family said.
“Our family mourns her deeply, but we ask that her life, not the senseless violence that took it, be what endures.
“We hope her memory calls us as a nation back to decency, courage, and peace.”
