❤️THEY MATTER: SOFIA & BORIS GURMAN❤️
‘We are heartbroken by the sudden and senseless loss of our beloved Boris and Sofia’.
Today is Sofia Gurman’s 62nd birthday. She is not here to celebrate – neither is her husband. Today, their family mourns.
In their final moments, Australia Post worker Sofia and mechanic Boris tried to prevent the massacre at the Chanukah by the Sea Jewish festival at Bondi Beach, NSW, on December 14.
Boris pushed one killer onto the road and wrestled a gun from his hands. Sofia was part of this bravery, and after her adored husband was shot, she lay down next to him. The killer ended her life as well.
They are just two of the 15 people murdered at the festival.
Sofia is the 69th Australian woman killed this year and the 174th woman lost to violence since January 1 of 2024.
Sofia was to celebrate her 62nd birthday today and in January she would have celebrated 35 years of loving her husband.
“We are heartbroken by the sudden and senseless loss of our beloved Boris and Sofia Gurman,” their family said.
“They had been married for 34 years, with their 35th wedding anniversary approaching in January.
“We were looking forward to celebrating Sofia’s 62nd birthday on Wednesday 17th of December.
“Sofia worked at Australia Post and was deeply loved by her colleagues and community.
“Boris was a retired mechanic, known for his generosity, quiet strength and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.
“Bondi locals, together they lived honest, hard-working lives and treated everyone they met with kindness, warmth and respect.
Boris and Sofia were devoted to their family and to each other.
“They were the heart of our family, and their absence has left an immeasurable void.”
