Here we are in the midst of a male violence epidemic and a football club is proudly proclaiming their latest appointment.
A guy who pleaded guilty to a domestic violence assault on his former partner.
West Australian businessman and Perth Heat chairman Rory Vassallo is now the patron of South Fremantle Football Club.
The extra shitty thing about old mate’s new role is that he is stepping into the shoes of a woman, Eileen Bond. Eileen had the role for 33 years. She passed away last year.

Meanwhile, Western Australia has recorded a massive spike in domestic violence. Three women have been killed there this year – one was murdered yesterday. And 10 women were killed in WA last year.
In February of 2024, Vassallo fronted Fremantle Magistrates Court, admitting a charge of assault in aggravating circumstances.
He also agreed not to contest a family violence restraining order which was put in place banning him from contacting the victim.
A charge of impersonating a police officer was dropped.
In 2005, Vassallo was convicted on non-DV assault charge.
If we have any hope of getting men to take ownership of the male violence epidemic, we need sporting clubs to not place violent men into key leadership roles.
