This is a photo of Amy Bowden celebrating her last birthday before she was killed. She turns 29 today. Her family and friends will mourn her just a little more today, knowing she will be forever 26 years old.
Amy died following an incident at her home in Redwood Park, South Australia, on February 8, 2024. Officially, Amy’s partner Ethan Lenny George Ross injected her with methamphetamine in an attempt to reverse a heroin overdose.
Ross did not call an ambulance. Had he dialed 000, she would most likely be alive.
Ross was not charged with causing Amy’s death but he was convicted for not getting her help.
He was sentenced to nine months and – due to time served – will be eligible for release on May 3.
Amy’s mum Michelle Sposito is hopeful the Department of Prosecutions will consider a charge of manslaughter.
Michelle is campaigning to change the law in South Australia so people who do not dial 000 face much harsher sentences than that handed to Amy’s partner.
Amy’s Law would also see legislation around duty of care re-evaluated.
cuty of care in South Australia applies between an adult and a child and a carer to an elderly infirm or person with disability.
“It does not apply between partner to partner, which I think is beyond belief,” Michelle says.
We need an extension of duty of care to ensure innocent victims like my daughter get appropriate justice.”
