Dennis Naroldol, a man with an ‘entrenched history of violence’, stabbed his partner to death on April 14, 2023 in Darwin. He has just been sentenced on a charge of manslaughter. Despite an extremely long list of domestic violence attacks, he will be released in weeks after being sentenced to three years behind bars.

The 51-year-old woman he killed was an artist and deeply loved by her family and her community.
Naroldol was convicted of assaulting the woman on multiple occasions since 1995 with those attacks often involving knives and other weapons.
He was also the subject of multiple domestic violence orders aimed at protecting the woman.
He was charged with murder but convicted on the manslaughter charge, with sentencing handed down this past week.
He received a head sentence of four years with release after serving three. He will walk from jail in a matter of weeks because of time served.
Manslaughter in the Northern Territory can result in a life sentence.
This deeply abhorrent sentence shows how badly the legal system treats femicide victims. It gives her life no value and puts his needs above her right for justice. How are we supposed to end femicide when men get a walk in the park for killing women?
