At least 324 women and girls had their genitalia filmed and their privacy invaded by one man over 14 months – most will not be aware of this.
They are invisible victims.
Perhaps this is why the man who abused them to feed his sexual fetish managed to score a get out of jail free card.
Lucas James Bird placed cameras in toilets around the Gold Coast, with police finding 324 recordings of women and girls on his devices when they became aware of what he was doing.
A group of locals chased him down and held him for police when he was busted filming a 23-year-old woman in a bathroom at Yatala on January 29.

After he was arrested, police found hundreds of recordings of other women’s bodies as they used toilets.
Every video and photo was made without their consent and in breach of their privacy between November 4, 2024 and January 26, 2026.
Bird pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court this week to three observation or recordings in breach of privacy charges and to one count each of authority required to possess explosives and unlawful possession of weapons.
His lawyer told the court Bird had a lifelong paraphiliac disorder.
A specialist said Bird got an adrenaline rush knowing he could get caught and got off on ‘wee porn’.
Magistrate Deborah Mitchell said it was the most heinous example of invasion of privacy she was aware of and that it was “sickening”.
But … no jail time.
Bird was sentenced to six months in jail wholly suspended and 12 months’ probation with convictions recorded.
