Jed Daniel Gordon, a one-time employee of heavy metal band Parkway Drive, will not go to jail for sexually abusing a girl multiple times over 10 months.
In March he pleaded guilty to abusing the 15-year-old girl between November of 2002 and July of 2003.
He could have been jailed for a maximum of 10 years but he was ordered to undertake a three-year community corrections order and 300 hours of community service.
He is also on a two-year apprehended domestic violence order and is listed on the child protection register.
Byron Bay Local Court Judge Geoffrey Dunlevy said he did not jail Gordon because the abuser had “significant insight” as was therefor remorseful.
The victim told the court that the sexual and emotional abuse the offender subjected harmed her ability to navigate romantic, platonic, family and professional relationships.
She said she faced “re-victimisation in emotionally abusive relationships, domestic violence or sexual harassment, assault and rape multiple times” as a result of Gordon’s crimes against her.
Parkway Drive says Gordon is no longer associated with the band and the members “bear moral responsibility for contracting him … on and off over the years”.
