There’s been a noticeable spike in men killing their mothers this year. As I write seven women have been killed by their sons compared to eight women being murdered by their current or former partners.
Sandra Popovic is the latest woman allegedly murdered by her son. Sandra disappeared from Winston Hills, New South Wales on Monday, June 8. Some three days later her son was charged with her murder. Sandra’s body has not been found. Her son is charged. The 58-year-old is the 31st Australian woman killed this year. Last year we lost 79 women to violence – the year before 106 women were killed.
Last year, four men killed their mothers compared to 33 men killing their current or former partners in the same 12 months.
At this stage there is very little information about Sandra. I will update this post when I know more about her.
