Maree was the 41st of 72 women lost to violence in 2023.
Loosemore killed Maree because she was not interested in having a relationship with him. He was at her property as a farm-stay guest.
He was charged with murder, but the jury convicted him on manslaughter. He will be sentenced later this year.
“It was an unlawful, violent assault that killed her, and then burning of the house meant there was not enough evidence to suffice intent of murder,” Maree’s son Darcy told the ABC recently.
“We have to accept what we can get.”
Maree was a qualified surveyor who was working in a pharmacy when she was killed.
She was also mum to three sons – and they are rebuilding her home as part of her legacy.
“She was such a happy and vibrant person, striving to just make the most of her life and be the best person she could for everyone around her,” Harrison Vermont said in the ABC interview.
“The loss is just devastating, especially to us kids. She was our mum. She was beautiful.”
