The man in this photo preyed on a young woman who just wanted to be a dancer.
When she reported him to police and the legal process started, the South Australian dance community froze her out.
“You took my safety but you cannot take my voice I will not be silent,” the victim told Juan Carlos Ospina Sanchez after he was convicted on two counts of indecent assault.
Today he was sentenced to at least nine months in jail.
As he was taken from the Adelaide District Court, the perp had the hide to tell his supporters ‘I love you’.
Their hero was a one-time Australia’s Got Talent finalist and ran dance classes in Adelaide. His supporters cannot seem to accept this man destroyed a woman’s life.
Judge Liesl Kudelka said the woman ‘endure’ his unwanted so she would ‘not lose her opportunity’ to be a dancer, the Advertiser reports.
“Your victim thought that she could learn from you – in my view, you took advantage of your status when you committed your offending,” Judge Kudelka said.
“Your sexual interest in her was based on power and, repeatedly, you exploited that power.”
The victim said it was hard to endure the five-year prosecution process because it meant she had ‘to relive the past and it stops me from being present’.
“I want you to know you have ruined dancing for me, something (that) gave me so much joy and have stained the reputation of such a beautiful art and community,” she said.
“It’s not easy for me to speak up and risk social isolation but I don’t want to be an enabler – if we enable this behaviour, it means we think it’s okay.”
