Avi Yemini was convicted for unlawful assault, using a carriage service to harass (three times) and breaching a personal safety order at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court in July of 2019.
He claims he is a journalist (he’s not) and he works for Rebel News, a strong supporter of Pauline Hanson and other far right figures.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Hanson would proclaim Yemini and Rebel News as her preferred media outlet.
She has long blamed women for the violence of abusive men while proclaiming men are the only real victims of domestic violence.
She supports abusive men in their attempts to gain custody of their children and has repeatedly said women are rorting the so-called ‘domestic violence industry’ for money and for power over fathers.
Hanson wants to freeze traditional media out so she can control the narrative and not face the same (supposed) independent questioning that other politicians face.
In essence, she is using a convicted woman basher to help control her narrative so she can sway how mainstream Australia responds at election time.
When Yemini was convicted over an assault on his former partner, the victim revealed how much she feared him, saying he broke her spirit and destroyed her self-worth.
She lives in a state of uncertainty, is constantly anxious and suffers ongoing panic attacks.
“It was like I didn’t exist as a human being, I was just a vessel for his hatred,” she told the court.
If Hanson manages to gain power she would wind back protections for women. This is a person who proclaimed ‘women’s rights have gone to far’ including referencing our legal and individual right to vote. It makes total sense that she would rely on a ‘news’ outlet that shares her world-view and would serve as a dutiful mouthpiece to make this happen.
