When I say Not All Men I mean this guys specifically. He is Michael Blake – the headmaster St Joseph’s College Hunters Hill.
In the wake of a shocking few weeks of violence against women and girls, including four femicides, multiple gang rapes and the AFL related sexual assaults, Michael decided to draw the line in the sand for the students at his school.
He delivered a speech saying, boys and men have a responsibility to be safe people.
His call came as Nationals MPs Angus Taylor and Matt Canavan decided to throw women under the bus, with the former refusing to say boys should be taught about consent and the latter saying the feminisation of the curriculum was pushing boys and young men into the manosphere.
Michael decided to go against the grain to hold his students to account.
“I want every young woman who encounters a St Joseph’s College boy to be safer because you are there. Not merely safe from you – safer because of you,” he said.
“It has been a difficult week to be a man. It’s been infinitely harder to be female.
“It has been a life changing week for the women who are the alleged victims.
“It’s been an extraordinarily hard week to be a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault of abuse.
“Gentleman, here is the part I particularly want you to understand.
“For many women, this has not been a hard week, it is a sad ongoing reality.
“This is not about how uncomfortable these stories make us feel as men, but the broader issue that belongs to all of us.”
