DONATE TO SUPPORT ARJA’S FAMILY
Arja Weinert went to the beach to do the most ordinary of things – just hanging with her mates at a party.
Then a boy assaulted her with a block of wood to the head.
Arja remains in a coma, suffering severe fractures and other trauma from the attack.
Arja’s dad Shane is raising his two children alone.
The injuries to the teenager are so severe that she faces a six-month stay in hospital and Shane wants to be by her side every step of the way.
“Life now, for her and us, will never be the same,” Shane says.
“Being still under a medically-induced coma, we’re yet to see the severity of damage this is going to have, mentally, emotionally, physically and all the other insidious ways from this heinous unprovoked attack.”
Police have charged a 17-year-old male with reckless grievous bodily harm over the attack in Forster.
He was placed on bail and is due to return to court on September 30.
It is alleged he assaulted Arja on August 29, by throwing the wood at Arja’s head.
At least one other boy was present and I have been told both these males have a history of assaulting girls and women.
Shane says Arja is an amazing girl with an incredible capacity for love and kindness.
“She’s a darling daughter and typical big sister – Arja is an all round pleasure to know and spend time with,” he says.
“She’s a calm yet confident in the young woman she is becoming.
“She’s an applied student across all subjects and is popular with peers and teachers alike – right through to showing the new kid around campus, without hesitation.”
Family friend Kristy started the GoFundMe for Arja’s family.
“Right now, Arja’s family’s only priority is being by her side and supporting her through what is an incredibly frightening and uncertain time,” Kristy says.
