Craig McLachlan is coming to Spiegel Haus Melbourne with his new show Dr Schadenfreude.
You might remember McLachlan from headlines such as ‘Craig McLachlan sent video of himself pretending to me to actor Christie Whelan Browne’; ‘Former TV host says Craig McLachlan groped her live on a UK children’s show; ‘Craig McLachlan sexually harassed three more actresses, bulled actor, court documents show; and my personal favorite ‘Court told actor who confronted Craig McLachlan about onstage kiss was warned she’d never work in the industry again’.
He will appear alongside multiple performers at the Spiegel Haus Melbourne at the end of the year.
It’s astounding he has found such a high-profile venue for his show given the number of women who have spoken openly about him.
McLachlan has long been the centre of sexual misconduct allegations by female co-stars.
He’s accused of touching, kissing and groping actors without permission while cast in The Rocky Horror Show, Neighbours, City Homicide, the Doctor Blake Mysteries.
A court cleared him of six assault and seven indecent assault allegations in 2020 – but this was done on a legal technicality, with the presiding magistrate saying the women who came forward were brave and honest.
The magistrate said changes to the standard of proof required for consent could not be applied retrospectively and could they have been the end result for McLachlan would have been much different.
McLachlan tried to sue Fairfax Media, the ABC and Christie Whelan Browne in 2022 after they published material related to his alleged behavior. He ultimately dropped the defamation proceedings.
