Journalists cannot help themselves – find a catchy term and frame the murder of a woman around that.
And so we have the mass rape and femicide of Daniela Aichinger dubbed ‘Pelicot 2.0’.
Journalists are reducing both Daniela and Gisele Pelicot to this silly catchphrase.
Yes, there are huge similarities between what Dominique Pelicot did to Gisele and what Robert Aichinger did to Daniela – but it’s time for media to drop the focus on the shock and awe and to examine the why?
Why are men so empowered to drug, rape and sell their partners?
Why do other men take part in these crimes?
And when men see the messages online but don’t partake, why do they not reach out to police or the victims themselves?
Over the past few years we’ve seen 10s of thousands of men taking part in mass rape forums.
This is the third time in as many years that we’ve seen a husband charged over the drugging and mass rape of his partner. In the UK, a husband and 12 other men are on trial for drugging and raping a woman over more than 20 years.
Criminal investigators overseas have uncovered a huge network of men organising the drug-facilitated sexual assault of women across the globe.
Aichinger drugged Daniela and raped her. He offered her for sale for about $800 in Australian dollars to other men and they came in droves.
It’s understood more than 70 men may have raped Daniela, who died from the injuries they inflicted on her. Her teenage daughter found Daniela’s body on June 25. Aichinger told police she died from ‘rough sex’ injuries but investigators are starting to find how far this man went, partially from his text messages.
Aichinger told a family member he was ‘pimping out his wife’ to a ‘revolving door of strange men’ at the home they shared.
“He showed me suggestive photos of Daniela on his cellphone and told me that she would bring in $500 Euros per encounter,” the relative – who did not tell police – says.
Aichinger used ‘dead meat’ in his sales pitch to the other rapists.
Daniela’s life and death are not a movie sequel. She deserves more than this.
