❤️SHE MATTERS: YVONNE WHEAR❤️
She left her boots and hat at home. Her clothes were folded on the bed for the next day. There was food in the slow cooker. The shoes she almost always wore were sitting at the front door. Her farm gate was unlocked.
Her family knew she would never leave her beloved animals. The signs were there that she would never disappear herself deliberately.
Yvonne Whear went missing from Murwillumbah, New South Wales on February 19. Her car was found in a river in September. Two trail bike riders found Yvonne’s body at farm in Terragon on October 5.
Police are now running a homicide investigation into Yvonne’s death.
Yvonne is the 56th Australian woman killed this year. Last year we lost 80 women to violence – the year before 106 women were killed.
Yvonne – a 73-year-old retired aged care professional – was mum to four children, grandmother to 15 grandchildren and the proud carer of a multitude of animals.
“Yvonne was always with her animals and would never go anywhere because she could not leave them for more than a night,” her daughter Gillian told the Guardian a few months ago.
Yvonne’s family and friends really led the charge to find her – the local area was plastered with her missing posters, they set up a Find Yvonne social media page and they spoke to media as much as possible, keeping her case front and centre.
“I miss her advice, her voice, her presence,” Gillian said in her interview with the Guardian a few months ago.
“It’s the everyday moments that hurt the most – the ones we never thought we’d lose.”
Police need anyone with information about Yvonne and what happened to her to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
