Shane Toovey disarmed a killer – then he held his victim’s hand as she took her last breath!
Paul Cannon lured Lynn Cannon to his home in Lansdale, WA, in December of 2022.
When she arrived, he attacked her with a knife.
A paramedic, Shane was the first responder on the scene. When he arrived he found Lynn on the kitchen floor.
“She was lying on her back looking at me,” he told a media outlet this week.
“There was blood everywhere.
“I poked my head around the corner and I saw him in the recliner with a knife in front of him covered in blood.
“I walked over to him slowly and that’s when I grabbed the knife away from him and put it in the kitchen sink.”
“I just brushed the hair out of her eyes and talked to her and she passed away.
“I said, I’m sorry, sorry I couldn’t save her. And she’s safe now.”
Shane was recognised for his bravery and work this week in the King’s Honours List.
Shane was also a first responder when his mate and colleague Tinesh Tamilkodi who died on duty in November of 2023.
That year, Shane also responded to the killing of a child by their mother and the death of a newborn baby in an accident.
He chose to leave the service after these deaths.
