They killed her, then dumped her in the creek.
It’s been 27 years and her family still doesn’t know who ended her life.
Her name is Heather Turner. She was murdered on January 16, 1998. She was only 16.
Heather was the cutest little girl, her cousin Kym-Maree Kuijpers remembers.
A born performer, Heather started tap dancing and ballet at the age of three and spent most of her childhood years perfecting her craft.
Heather loved to draw and excelled at school, making friends and impressing her teachers.
She was a happy-go-lucky teenager who embraced sport and drama at high school. The local youth group and picnics with family and friends were among her fave activities.
Heather’s body was found in a creek at Port Gawler on January 31, 1998. She had been bashed and discarded wearing only a top, underwear and one sock.
On the day she died, Heather spoke to a mate at Semaphore Jetty.
She planned to walk to her home in Largs Bay, but instead ended up at a house in Daveron Park.
This was the last place she was seen alive.
She was carrying a blue purse with a picture of Tweety Bird on it. The bag has not been found.
Heather’s aunt Janet Turner spent many years trying to find out what happened to the teen.
Janet and her brother (Heather’s dad) both died without the answers they needed.
“We look at Heather’s photo and think she’s never going to grow up,” Janet told a media outlet in 1998. Janet’s daughter Kym-Maree now advocates for Heather.
“If you know what happened to Heather, please contact police,” Kym-Maree said.
“Somebody has to know something. There’s got to be an end to this.”
