The RED HEART Movement and Yhurwun Bullan are co-ordinating a national event for women and girls impacted by violence & their allies.
One Spirit One Heart will be held on Saturday, October 25, during National Domestic and Family Violence Month.
It is the dream of Yhurwun Bullan’s Aunty Tanya Keed (Ngunnawal/Canberra).
Aunty Tanya provides vital frontline support for women impacted by violence.
Aunty Tanya and I will co-manage the event nationally and work with local coordinators.
It is for ALL Australian women and girls – from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to women & girls from multicultural communities, gender diverse and non-binary people, queer women & girls and women and girls of all abilities, ages and faiths. Women and girls from the Palestinian community will be especially welcome.
Based around the First Nations tradition of women gathering in circles to yarn (talk), this event will see us gather in cities and regional centres to tell our stories of trauma and healing.

As we talk, we will create red hearts and mark them with words or images reflecting our experiences.
These hearts will be collected and used for a public art installation on IWD 2026.
Political leaders will be invited to come along, to sit with us, to listen to our stories and to hear how we want them to move forward to keep our sisters safe.
Each event will close with traditional smoking ceremonies.
Yarning circles will be held at parliament houses in each state and territory and at important public gathering places in regional centres.
We have confirmed circles for Bendigo, Brisbane, Canberra, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Orange, Newcastle and Perth.
Volunteers, including coordinators, are welcome to email Sherele@AustralianFemicideWatch.org to express their interest.
To fund the events, we will be selling tees, hoodies and totes with an incredible image by Beau Pennefather Motlop. Please follow Beau on Insta. He is the bomb!
50% of proceeds from all sales of items with this image will be donated to Yhurwun Bullan so Aunty Tanya can continue her amazing work saving the lives of Aboriginal women and their children!
