Bishnu (Himali) Kumari Gurung travelled to Australia from Nepal to visit her family. The 53-year-old was asleep when a man allegedly drove his car into her family’s home on February 6, 2026. Rhyse Robert Hawkins has is charged with manslaughter and criminal damage. Himali is the 7th woman killed in Australia in 2026. Hawkins is not known to Himali. Last year 78 women were killed, while 106 women were killed in 2024.
“She came here to share memories and love us,” Himali’s daughter said.
“Our mother was a truly remarkable woman who was full of life, kindness, warmth, and unconditional love.
“She always put others before herself and lived her life with compassion and generosity.
“She was the heart and soul of our family, our greatest source of strength, comfort and laughter.”
