❤️SHE MATTERS: CECILIA YOKE WEBB❤️
He allegedly stabbed his mother to death, then tried to leave the country.
Her name is Cecilia Yoke Webb. She was murdered at her home in The Gap, Queensland. Her 40year-old son is charged with her murder. Cecilia is the 15th Australian woman killed this year and the 118th woman lost to violence since January 1, 2024.
Cecilia was 79 years old. 79!
No woman or girl, no matter her age, is safe from violent men.
The past few days I’ve posted social media content by Australian men. These men used the guise of comedy to make disturbing reels encouraging and normalising violence against women.
Many of us have watched the Netflix series Adolescence, which examines how young boys become killers off the back of misogynist media content and heroising of violent men.
Make no mistake – every time a woman is killed by a man, the start of his journey to murder is deeply embedded in jokes that normalise violence.
Male violence is at epidemic levels in our country and yet our leaders, organisations and many in our community keep downplaying the significant impact and life cost of violence on women.
Cecilia will not be the last woman to be killed this year. And that is the most distressing thing I can even write at this moment.
