❤️SHE MATTERS: KARA JADE WERIBONE!❤️
** CW: This post contains the name & image of a murdered Aboriginal woman.
“RIP tidda. Free in the dreaming time now sis.”
She was murdered just 25 hours ago – and already the victim-blaming, the racism, the denigration of has started.
Kara Jade Weribone was shot to death in Toowoomba on Wednesday. The killer remains on the run.
Kara is the 12th Australian woman killed this year – and the 113th woman killed since January 1 of 2024.
A quick glance at mainstream media and their affiliated social sites shows a raft of comments denigrating the 27-year-old mother-of-three young children.
The reality is, the media never remove these comments – you can’t defame a dead woman (according to the law) and there are no sub judice repercussions.
But every one of the horrific comments drives their algorithm – each time a person comments, that media’s social site will stay in the commentator’s news feeds for two weeks.
Putting money into the pockets of the billionaires who control almost all our media assets.
And the same media will be happy to publish victim-blaming articles and headlines because that fuels the online onslaught.
The media does not care that Kara was a mum. They do not care that three children are now bereaved and traumatised.
They do not care that Kara was loved.
They don’t care that she was unique, passionate, fun, loving.
Media put profits before women every single time.
But Kara’s family care: “Nothing but heartache love you my baby sister – I’m trying so hard to keep it together but this is hurting me that you’re really gone baby sis.”
REST IN POWER KARA JADE WERIBONE! ❤️
