SHE MATTERS: KATE & APRIL PATERSON

❤️SHE MATTERS: KATE PATERSON & BABY APRIL!❤️

In Queensland, we have a government more worried about cracking down on a slogan than cracking down on domestic violence perpetrators. And we have a police force that recently decided to dump its specialist domestic violence unit because domestic violence (aka men’s violence against women) is not ‘core policing business’.
And now we have a woman and her baby daughter murdered and their partner and father is in police custody.
Kate Paterson and one-year-old April were found dead on March 12 at Belivah in Queensland. Kate is the 14th woman killed this year and April is the fifth child killed in 2026. We lost 79 women to violence last year and 106 women were killed in 2024. More than 60% of these deaths were domestic violence.
Across Australia, women are being slaughtered and we can’t even get Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to consider holding a national inquiry into femicide. We can have inquiries on pretty much anything but shining a light on male violence is a road too far for Albo and co.
Families of femicide are tired. Advocates are tired. Sector professionals are tired. I am tired. We are all tired because we see the failures, we see the preventability of these deaths and we see governments and leaders continually turning their eyes away from the one epidemic they can end.
