❤️SHE MATTERS: LOUISE HUNT❤️
Louise Hunt was supposed to attend Toowoomba’s vigil for domestic violence victims in May. Instead, she will be one of the women remembered.
The anti-domestic violence advocate was murdered at her home in Geham, Queensland, on Tuesday. Her husband has been charged over her death.
Louise is the 18th of 19 Australian women killed this year – and one of 122 women killed since January 1, 2024.
When journalists write about women killed by their partners or former partners, they feel the need to publish a multitude of photos of the killer standing next to the victim, looking all lovey dovey.
Then they run through his list of achievements and post more photos of him all smiley and good blokey.
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Within hours of Louise being killed – news outlets started rolling out the same old template.
The man is accused of killing his partner, setting fire to her home and leaving her two children to fend for themselves as he fled the crime scene.
He doesn’t deserve platforming like this – Louise does.
She’s more than his wife. She’s more than a victim. Louise is someone. Her life and experiences are unique and worthy of highlighting.
She was the marketing coordinator of a national business.
She was an anti-domestic violence advocate who supported Toowoomba’s Protea Place.
Louis was adventurous, fun-loving, down-to-earth, kind, caring, an animal-lover, a good mate to many and a much-loved mum, daughter and sister.
“May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month and we have a candlelight vigil,” Louise’s friend close friend Amanda Dalton says.
“Lou would have been there, supporting others and now it’s her that we’re having to remember.”
“She just had the most gorgeous, friendly, cheeky smile like she was just always smiling and always helping people.”
REST IN POWER LOUISE HUNT! ❤️
