❤️SHE MATTERS: MALLEE SHIRLEY SMITH❤️
Someone described her murder as ‘wrong place, wrong time’.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Mallee Smith was where she was supposed to be and she was there at the time she was supposed to be. She was a young woman with every right to walk down the street without being murdered.
Her killer is the only person in the wrong.
The 24-year-old Shellharbour Council community insights planner was critically injured when a man decided to drive his car into her and seven other people at Maroochydore, Qld, on December 13. She died on December 15.
Guilherme Dal Bo is charged with eight counts of attempted murder. It is expected police will upgrade one of those charges to murder. This was an act of stranger violence.
Mallee is the 67th of 69 Australian women killed this year and the 172nd woman lost to violence since January 1 of 2024.
“Mallee was a dedicated and caring team member who strived to improve the quality of life of the community she served,” Shellharbour Council CEO Wayde Peterson said.
While studying her Bachelor of Science at the University of Wollongong, Mallee completed a thesis on Gender in disaster mitigation and resilience planning in Fiji.
She attended Moruya High School and was on the HSC Honour Roll.
“Taken too soon, your beautiful smile will live on forever,” a friend said.
