SHE MATTERS: MARCIA CHALMERS

❤️SHE MATTERS: MARCIA CHALMERS❤️

Were she a man, her decades of service to Australia and its citizens would have been the headline and the angle of the story.
But no. Her career and sacrifice for our country was relegated to the last paragraphs of Australian media outlets.
Because of course it was.
Commander Marcia Chalmers was beaten in her home at Glebe, NSW, allegedly by her gardener Jason Easson, on October 31, 2025. She died in the hospital on November 6. He is charged with multiple offences including manslaughter (because apparently killing an 86-year-old woman in her home is not considered murder by NSW Police). Marcia is the 62nd Australian woman killed this year and the 167th woman lost to violence since January 1 of 2024.
The Daily Telegraph’s story waxes lyrical about how hard done-by the accused man is – a bit of blah blah on inconvenience, legal aid and having to wait on remand for his trial.
There are 25 paragraphs in this news story and (surprise) we find out in the 23rd paragraph that Marcia was a decorated Navy veteran.
Marcia spent well over 30 years in the navy and was the last captain of the Women’s Royal Australian Naval Service (which is now just part of the Royal Australian Navy).
“Commander Marcia Chalmers (retired) was a well loved and respected member of the Navy family. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this very sad time,” the Department of Defence said in a media statement.
The Royal Officer Association said: “Marcia was well respected for her professionalism and total commitment to the women of the RAN.”
Marcia, thank you for your service to Australia and you matter!
