He allegedly murdered Megan Rose Shaw and left her in bushland.
Megan’s body was found on June 13 nearby the Goldfields Highway in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Bevan Watson – who is known to Megan – is charged with her murder.
Megan is the 32nd Australian woman killed this year. Last year we lost 79 women to violence – the year before 106 women were killed. Megan was one of four Australian women and girls killed as a result of femicide in a seven-day period. In that same week, one shark attacked an Australian women.
The shark attack dominated news feeds for days and political and media identities came out in force to condemn the shark in question, some even calling for the seas to be policed and animals to be eradicated.
The same media and identities disregarded the femicides. But this is how it has always been in Australia – women and children lost to violence continue to be ignored.
I will update this post when I have more information about Megan.
