‘Quiet’, ‘reliable’, ‘conscientious’, ‘normal as shit’ and ‘totally chill’.
These are the words a media outlet chose to publish about the man who allegedly killed 70-year-old Michele Denton.
Almost all of the Daily Telegraph’s story about Michele’s death framed the accused man – her son – in the kindest of lights.
Michele’s body was found in a home at Mole River in NSW when police responded to another act of domestic violence on September 19, 2026.
Phillip John Denton is charged with her murder.
Michele is the 52nd Australian woman killed this year. Last year we lost 79 women to violence – the year before 106 women were killed. Her death was the third femicide in less than a day across Australia.
Michele was a valued member of her community. An animal lover and farmer who worked with people who are aged or have disability.
