After murdering Rachel Moresi, he left her body in the most degrading of ways. He buried her under trash and tried to erase his actions by setting the rubbish and Rachel alight.
Rachel’s body was found on Wednesday in her home at Mount Gambier. The person who found Rachel was her carer.
A man known to the 55-year-old will be extradited from Victoria and charged with her murder.
Rachel is the eighth Australian woman lost to violence this year – indeed, all eight of these women have been killed in the past 25 days. Yes. 25 days!
Last year we lost 101 women to violence – this year, if the femicides continue at the rate they are – we will lose at least 105 women.
And yet the silence around Australia’s femicide epidemic continues. Our Prime Minister @albomp refuses to say their names, contact their families, acknowledge their deaths or talk about the disturbing increase in the ferocity of violent men this past 13 months. Make no mistake – almost every woman killed in the 57 weeks has been murdered by a male.
Rachel was an adored member of her community, loved and cherished by those who knew her.
“She was actually in a good mood,” a friend told a media outlet about the last time they spoke.
“The last thing we said to each other the night before was, we both yawned, and we both said, it’s time for a nap, and we’ll see each other tomorrow.”
