❤️THEY MATTER: RUVENA LAM, CHARLES FENG & JUSTIN FENG!❤️
Of the 23 women killed this year, five have been murdered (allegedly) by their sons.
Ruvena Lam – a 65-year-old mum from Rosemeadow, NSW – is the latest woman to be killed by one of her children.
Her son Jacky Feng is alleged to have murdered Ruvena, his father Zhi Chao (Charles) and his brother Justin Feng on May 3.
He also tried to kill his other brother, but that man survived.
Ruvena is the 23rd Australian woman lost to violence this year. Last year we lost 79 women to violence – the year before 106 women were killed.
In no surprise to anyone who follows my work, media reporting is focused on the man accused of slaughtering Ruvena, Charles and Justin. Media outlets are outlining how he’s a ‘good bloke’ who ‘snapped’ on the back of ‘ups and downs’. They’ve described his schooling, his career, his friendships, his ‘helpfulness’ and so on.
No expert comments were sought to explain how and why men who kill almost always come with a good bloke narrative and how violence never happens in a vacuum.
And very little information about Ruvena, Charles or Justin – just three more Australians lost to the epidemic of male violence reduced to nothing more than exclamation points in their own stories.
