❤️SHE MATTERS: UNNAMED WOMAN ❤️
“There’s no evidence hand sanitiser played a role.”
A police officer said this while updating media on the murder of a 41-year-old artist at Warlpiri Camp in Alice Springs on Sunday.
The mother-of-four was beaten to death.
Her male partner is charged with her murder.
She is the ninth Australian woman lost to violence this year – and the second Aboriginal woman killed in 2025.
All women lost to violence deserve to have their deaths reported with dignity, which is why it’s vital to examine that police statement about hand sanitiser.
On January 13, a 51-year-old woman was murdered in Alice Springs. Her male partner has also been charged.
Media said she was “drinking hand sanitiser”, leading readers to believe she was asking for it, she was not worthy of their sympathy and Aboriginal people are lesser.
Addiction is not confined to one group of people.
How the sanitiser claim came to exist is under question – those close to the victim’s case say journalists jumped to some very wrong conclusions.
It’s a sad indictment on the media that the police had to outline this in a press conference about this second NT femicide victim.
A victim who had endured horrific levels of violence throughout her relationship. The accused was also violent with other women. He was continually breaching domestic violence orders.
I’ve been told her family may need to leave the home where she died and this places them at risk of homelessness.
Sorry business may also be delayed.
The repercussions of femicide reverberate across communities and tears apart the lives of victim’s loved ones. We must never forget this.
REST IN POWER UNNAMED WOMAN❤️
