A 30-year-old unnamed mum-of-four and her 10-year-old daughter were killed when the woman’s partner allegedly rammed his vehicle into theirs on November 7.
Three other children were in the vehicle, with one in critical condition, one suffering serious injuries and one child suffering minor injuries.
The man is in custody, with police still investigating the circumstances of the alleged domestic violence assault.
The unnamed woman is the 59th Australian woman killed this year and the 164th woman lost to violence since January 1, 2024.
The little girl is the 23rd Australian child killed this year.
Media outlets have reported that one of the vehicles was seen ramming the other before the crash.
Both victims are Aboriginal and their deaths have caused great distress, trauma and grief in their community.
“What occurred on Friday is nothing short of a tragedy, and our officers are dedicated to thoroughly investigating what has occurred, as well as working with the Doomadgee community,” Mount Isa District Acting Superintendent Paul Austin said.
