The woman who was sexually assaulted, allegedly by a Sydney Swans player, gave this statement to a media outlet.
“I don’t want money. All I care about is justice. I’m going to stand up for what is right. And I’m never going to let this happen to anyone else. Justice will be served. I care about women’s rights and what’s right, because this happens too often to women and they get away with it.”
Victorian detectives have taken statements from the victim as well as two of her female colleagues and have travelled to Sydney to interview the men.
She was assaulted at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne in the early hours of Monday.
Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Riley Bice, James Jordon and Nick Blakey have been suspended for the remaining AFL season by their club for bringing the game into disrepute. While they will not be playing, they are all allowed to take part in other club events.
The suspension is not based on the assault of the woman but because the men breached the club’s standards and expected behaviour.
Sponsors have started standing down the some of the players from their commercial commitments.
