Snezana Wood thought her husband was going to kill her.
Sam Wood will remain in remand after bail was denied on Thursday.
Photos of injuries, allegedly caused by Wood, were tendered during his bail application in Queensland.
The court heard it was not the first time Wood attacked Snezana.
“She does articulate the choking that there was cessation of breath. She also articulated the banging of her head on the floor, she couldn’t breath and the defendant only stopped when (someone) called out,” the court was told.
His lawyer indicated Wood would say he was acting in self defence when he allegedly assaulted and strangled the female victim.
Wood admitted to pushing Snezana but denies strangling her.
Wood is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence) and strangulation in a domestic setting.
Maroochydore Acting Magistrate Janelle Boegheim heard Snezana provided a video recorded statement to investigators, but a statement from a witness had not been taken by police at this stage.
“We have been in contact with the complaint and (the alleged victim was) supportive of the charges,” Police prosecutor Sgt Jeanette Grigoris told the court.
Wood planned to return to Melbourne and engage in mental health treatment, the court was told.
“This is a man who has no prior history and (who) disputes the allegations,” his lawyer said.
“Diagnosed with severe depression by a pre-eminent forensic psychologist, he ought to be given the opportunity to engage therapeutically with mental health professionals.
“And also try to salvage something out of his professional reputation, which has taken a hell of a beating.”
In a statement posted to social media, Snezana said: “This is a difficult time for all of us, we are working through this as a family.”
She was not in court today.
DBG Health – the business that operates 28 by Sam Wood – said Wood was on indefinite leave from his duties.
The 46-year-old was in Noosa on holidays when the alleged attack occurred.
