Another day, another violent man getting a stage and a microphone!
At least 15 women have spoken about the abuse they suffered from Marilyn Manson (Brian Warner) over the years.
Among his victims are Evan Rachel Wood, Esmé Bianco, Ashley Walters and Ashley Morgan Smithline.
Their allegations include physical, psychological and sexual abuse and grooming.
Yet somehow, this man is allowed into Australia.
Venues and companies profiting from platforming this abusive thug include Ticketek, Fortitude Music Hall, Port Melbourne Industrial Centre for the Arts, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and the Enmore Theatre.
Despite the allegations, American authorities failed to prosecute.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney and the Sheriff’s Department spent four years investigating but the prosecutor said the domestic violence allegations fell outside the legal statute of limitations and the sexual assault charges could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
It is exceedingly rare to get rape and sexual convictions because of the way juries perceive women victims and male perpetrators.
When the allegations against Manson emerged, his record label dropped him but it seems the rehabilitation of the abuser is underway.
We saw Billy Corgan publicly supporting the offender this past week and the decision by businesses across the globe to allow him to perform at their venues is further evidence that no matter how brutal a famous man is he will always be allowed leniency in return for profits.
He is known for glorifying violence and self-harm in his shows and many Australian organisations have tried to get him banned for this.
Manson should be banned from touring in Australia based on his predation of women. Allowing an abuser to have a stage and microphone minimises the harm he did to the victims and tells men and boys there’s no ramifications for abuse.
