Kempsey councillor Noel Selby has resigned after he told a woman ‘pity she wasn’t bashed’ on a Facebook post earlier this year.
The council passed a motion to have him resign following an independent investigation that found he posted the comment. He is still denying he was responsible despite it coming from his own Facebook profile.
“Council’s chief executive officer received written notice from Councillor Noel Selby today resigning from his position as a Kempsey Shire councillor, effective immediately,” the council said in a statement yesterday.
“The resignation follows council’s consideration of a Code of Conduct investigation at its October meeting and a period of significant community concern about the matter.”
Local women have worked hard to apply pressure on him, including starting a petition.
Selby has posted online that he will sue me for exposing the comment and seeking he be held to account.
