ABOUT THE ARTWORK & THE ARTIST
Beau Pennefather Motlop’s image is based around the need for all of us to be inclusive of all women regardless of their backgrounds. We all endure violence or harassment at some point in our lives and we need to support our sisters through this. The image reference Australian women of diverse backgrounds, primarily Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. It also contains references to women and girls from Palestine, trans and gender diverse women and women who are from multicultural and white communities.
Beau says: “I have used an Ancestor that is repeated through a lot of my works. She is the matriarch and strong spirit that echoes through time. The dots around the edge are strengthening and healing spirits that support our women then and now. The linework within the colours are different songlines through the land.”
